Interested in Care?

Good for you! Your interest is the first step in a journey full of challenge and reward.

Out-of-home care is incredibly diverse across Australia, and the needs are great for every kind of carer. Some people sign up knowing exactly the kind of care they’re interested in – others will work that out along the journey. You don’t need to know what kind of care will work for you prior to applying – things will become clearer the more you find out along the application and training process.

Just to give you an idea of the kind of areas you can consider, out-of-home care ranges dramatically but covers the following types of care:

Respite Care

Caring for a child for one weekend a month to give either struggling parents or long-term foster carers a break.

Short-term Care

Short-term care can be anywhere from one week to 2 years. The goal of this kind of care is reunification with parents, or if not possible, transition to permanent care.

Adoption

Either local or inter-country, bringing a child into your family and raising them permanently.

Emergency Care

Caring for a child from a night to 2 weeks, while a foster care placement is found.

Long-term/Permanent Care

Caring for a child with a view to forever.

ARK communities exist for you,

even before you’ve completed your training.
